Lamborghinis and tax evasion

Lamborghinis and tax evasion. You might be asking, why these two things? Well, that is the difference between the East Egg and the West Egg. One side is that through newly acquired wealth with business and entrepreneurship. The other side contained generational wealth where we see the passing of wealth to each new generation.

But to answer your question, why Lamborghini and tax evasion? To sum it up in short, new wealth usually consists of young to middle aged people who have earned their wealth and like to spend it on products like fancy bags or Lamborghinis. On the other hand, old wealth is acquired through the generation before, and the generation before that. They have the purpose to keep that wealth and make sure that none of that wealth is ever going to be taken away from them or from the government.

But what was the worst was the valley of ashes, in between the two peaks of wealth and prosperity, the workers, the poor ones with busted-up cars. The place where people truly work hard, filled with poor conditions and factories, but also the place where the rich dump all their problems. Like how Tom meets his mistress.  The book is filled with many references that deal with the ideas and beliefs of the time, for example, a simple one, we see that Gatsby is reaching out toward the green light. That light is
located at the East egg, just like us today, we want to develop wealth and opportunity that gives our child or the next generation an unfair advantage.

  1. I really like how used implemented the concept of lambos and taxe evasion as a way of separating New and Old Wealth and how you mentioned that lambos are a true representation of new wealth since social media is filled with successful people driving them and how old wealth consists of tax evasion which has been a thing for a while now usually a concept used by the old wealth.

  2. Comparing East and West Egg to Lamborghinis and tax evasion is clever, making the wealth divide feel more relatable. I like how you show the difference between new wealth and old wealth, highlighting their attitudes toward spending and protecting their money. The mention of the Valley of Ashes adds a meaningful contrast, showing the harsh reality beneath the glamor. The green light symbolizing the pursuit of wealth is a strong conclusion, tying it all together.
